Families are encouraged to attend with their children; seniors are encouraged join in to! Children, youth, parents and fellow Our Savior members… people coming together in the name of Jesus to connect with each other and to widen the community in real ways, to reflect on the intersections between their life experiences and vocations and the call and workings of God through us and around us. Cross+Generational ministry engages us in action through: Resource Sharing, Recognition of Expertise and Gifts, Storytelling, Network Building and Appreciation of the uniqueness and gifts of each generation.
Each quarter a local or global recipient is picked for their offering. Recent recipients have included the ELCA Hunger program, tornado relief, the local food pantry and a local pet shelter. Spark Bibles are given to children when they begin Nursery Sunday School and 3rd graders receive an NRSV Student Bible.
The current program is a four year process encompassing fifth, sixth, seventh, and eighth grade students. Students are given Bibles at the beginning of the program. Students serve as acolytes as well as help distribute communion. Wednesday evenings from 6:30 – 7:30, the fifth, sixth, and seventh grade students meet and study from the Re:Form curriculum. Studies include the Old Testament, New Testament, the Bible, Creed, and the Ten Commandments. Eighth grade students choose an adult mentor from the congregation. They work together on a Mentoring workbook, building a relationship with one another throughout the program. All confirmation students participate in service learning opportunities throughout the Confirmation program and other opportunities for fellowship are provided. Every aspect of this ministry encourages young people to grow in their faith in God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, as well as in their knowledge of the Bible and Lutheran Theology.
In addition, students in the third and fourth grades are encouraged to attend one four-week session in the fall and another four-week session in January. These classes will study The Bible, Exploring Worship, Meet Martin Luther, and the Lord’s Prayer as an introduction to the Confirmation Program.
