Director of Youth & Children’s Ministry Position

Reports to: Senior Pastor (OSLC)

Compensation: Starting at $17,000 to 22,000

Job Classification: Part-time

Intended start date: August 1, 2022

POSITION SUMMARY: To encourage, inspire, and nurture young people and their families in the Christian faith and engage them in life-long learning in their faith journey. To lead OSLC youth (preschool through high school) with Christian teachings and programming in accordance with biblical teachings.

Requirements: This person must be strong in Christian faith and practice and possess the ability to interact and develop positive relations with staff, youth/young adults, and volunteers. Major components of this position include organizational skills, communication skills, leadership skills, and a passion for working with children, and youth.

Qualifications: Education or experience in areas of Religious Studies, Education, Social Work, Communication or related field, or prior youth-related work in an organized setting.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: The strengths and gifts of the successful candidate may dictate certain duties and responsibilities, many of which will include:

  • Facilitate OSLC (Our Savior Lutheran Church) youth ministry programs which may include: church school, confirmation, Vacation Bible School, service opportunities, middle and high school youth groups, and camps in accordance with the teachings of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). Ensure all children and youth are served with Christian Education and social experiences by providing a welcoming and inclusive environment.
  • Ensure that positive relations are built and maintained with leaders and youth of OSLC.
  • Have a presence at OSLC worship services and at school/community events.
  • Organize adult volunteers to implement, execute, and supervise programs.
  • Communicate upcoming events and opportunities to youth and families using multiple methods including social media.
  • Participate in youth camps, trips, and special events as approved by the council.
  • Assist with budgeting for OSLC youth ministry and Christian Education programming.

The successful candidate will pass a background check before being hired.
