Who We Are

Our Savior Lutheran Church is a community of Faith, brought together in worship and service.

That all may know Christ, grow in Christ, and joyfully go with Christ.

At Our Savior Lutheran Church, we joyfully gather and work together in order to engage in creative ministry providing every opportunity for every person to encounter the joy of Jesus Christ. We follow the ELCA in the guidelines it has laid out in our mission to spread God’s Word.

At Our Savior Lutheran Church, We Believe:

  • We receive God’s love and proclaim God’s love for all people.
  • We experience God’s presence among us as we live in community with one another.
  • The Holy Spirit is alive in us in worship and in daily life.
  • We are a community of believers called by the Holy Spirit to gather to hear the preaching of the Gospel and to share in the Holy sacraments instituted by Christ Himself.
  • In helping people discover, develop, and use their spiritual gifts to glorify God and to serve others.
  • In relevant Biblical teaching that enables spiritual growth and transforms lives.
  • In the stewardship of God’s gifts of time, talents, and possessions.
  • We are Christ’s arms to reach out to others in love, Christ’s hands to work to further His Kingdom, and Christ’s feet and voice to share the Gospel near and far.

Our Story:

The first worship service of Our Savior Lutheran Church was held on January 1, 1995, after much planning on the part of the people and pastors of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church and Redeemer Lutheran Church to merge the two congregations.

On Saturday, June 18, 1994, a fire severely damaged the Redeemer building, and the people of St. Paul’s welcomed the people of Redeemer to worship with them. Later that year, both congregations voted in favor of consolidation.  A constitution for the new church was adopted on December 4, 1994, and Our Savior came into being.

In early 1996, the adjacent lots were purchased, and the parking lot was completed.  Then later in 1996, the Wayne Public Library was purchased and became The Front Porch, a place for Our Savior’s youth ministry program.

A major project of the new congregation was the completion in December 1998 of the addition to the existing building, including a new sanctuary, narthex, offices, restrooms, and multipurpose room.

In 2013, a Prayer Room was created in one of the second story classrooms.

Later, the old sanctuary was refurbished to provide a chapel space.  Most recently, the Front Porch has been renovated and now provides a more welcoming place for youth.

A constant here at Our Savior has been our focus on community, and the importance of coming together in worship to celebrate Christ. From the inception of our Church, our priority has been the acceptance of others and a willingness to overcome differences for the sake of our Faith.

Education is an important facet of our ministry, and we work diligently and creatively to provide learning opportunities for everyone in our congregation, regardless of age. From young children to adult ministry, there is a place for you!

Our Savior Lutheran Church members get excited about reaching out and helping others. Once a need is identified, members rise up to respond in a caring and loving way.  Jesus met the needs of people by having the “heart of a servant,” and we strive to follow that example.
